But if the itching doesn't go away, there may be other causes that need a doctor's examination.

Causes of Itching Penis

Handling of itching on the penis is done according to the cause of the condition. The following are some of the most common causes of itching in the penis, including:
  • Fungal infections or candidiasis

  • Fungal infections are generally harmless and can be treated using antifungal drugs. Fungal infections often occur on the head of the penis and are called fungal balanitis. Certain health conditions, such as diabetes, make the fungus reproduce and cause severe infections. In diabetes, it is prone to re-infection even though it has healed. Symptoms of candidiasis on the penis include swelling of the penis, reddish rash, thick discharge from behind the foreskin, unpleasant odor or smell, pain during sexual intercourse and urination, and difficulty when pulling back the foreskin of the penis. The risk of having an infection like this will increase in people who often wear tight clothes, such as shorts made from lycra or denim; people with HIV, obesity, type 1 and 2 diabetes; is experiencing a decrease in the immune system; are taking antibiotics that kill good bacteria, which are usually able to suppress the growth of candida; taking corticosteroids in oral or topical forms; having sex with a person who is having a yeast infection.
  • Sexually transmitted infections

  • Itching can sometimes also be a symptom of a sexually transmitted infection. If caused by gonorrhea or gonorrhea, symptoms that appear include white, yellow, or green discharge from the tip of the penis, accompanied by pain and tenderness during urination. When caused by chlamydia the symptoms are white discharge from the penis and accompanied by pain. Psyphilis and genital herpes can also be itchy on the penis.
In addition to the causes that have been described above, itchy penis can be caused by other causes, such as:
  • Irritation due to urine.
  • Ingredients in bath soap.
  • Penile stool or smegma.
  • Bacterial infection.
  • Skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis, and lichen planus.
  • High levels of blood sugar in the body.
  • Scabies.

Steps to Keep the Penis Always Healthy

If a person has no risk factors and his immune system is not compromised, penile itching due to fungal infections can generally be treated with over-the-counter medicines, such as clotrimazole, ketoconazole, and miconazole. If itching occurs more than two weeks, especially if itching of the penis is accompanied by symptoms such as blood in the urine, high fever, nausea and vomiting, consult a doctor immediately to get the right treatment. Doctors need further examination to detect the possibility of more serious illness. But before itching occurs on the penis, the following ways to treat penis as a precautionary measure.
  • Wash the penis with warm water and mild soap without fragrance, especially in the male foreskin area that is not or has not been circumcised. Also wash the base of the penis, testicles, and anus. But avoid washing your penis too often because it can actually cause pain. Do this at least once a day.
  • Always dry the penis after bathing or urinating. Moist male genitals are more at risk of infection.
  • Wear subordinates and underpants that are not too tight and absorb sweat easily.
  • Change underwear at least once a day.
  • Avoid wearing wet clothes for too long. Change clothes immediately after exercising.
  • Consume enough drinking water every day.
  • Avoid applying powder or deodorant on the penis, especially toddlers. Powder can stay behind the foreskin and cause irritation.
  • If you want to have sex, make sure you use a condom or safety, and avoid risky sexual behavior.
Itching of the penis due to infection can occur repeatedly if treatment is incomplete. If the itching of the penis is caused by a sexually transmitted infection, it is recommended that treatment is also carried out to a partner, so that transmission does not occur again. Routinely maintaining personal hygiene and the penis as well as living a healthy lifestyle generally can help prevent complaints of itching of the penis.
